The School of Planning and Geography is a major international centre for research in the areas of planning and spatial policy. Its mission is to play an internationally leading role in research and academic inquiry associated with the agenda and debates in the development, management and sustainability of cities and regions. The Innovation and Engagement Unit works to develop, deliver and support a successful annual programme of public lectures, seminars and conferences. Through the work of the Innovation and Engagement Unit, the School engages with and continually informs and builds links to the worlds of academia, public policy and professional practice and the wider community. Through the engagement with a wide range of audiences, the School aims to enhance its impact and dissemination of world class research.
Research groups are supported by the Innovation and Engagement Unit in the delivery of their group seminar series. These give international visitors, academics and key politicians and policy makers a chance to present their research and findings to a captive audience.
The events programme consists of three distinct components
- Scholarly seminars at which leading internal and external researchers both home and abroad are invited to share their findings with students
- Through its 5 research groups the School engages with a wide array of public policy, themes and issues. In this strand of the programme the School aims to promote public debate.
- As a planning school the programme sets high priority of engaging with a wide spectrum of professional practice in Urban Design, Economic Development, Sustainability and every field that contributes to design and delivery of sustainable places.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Students of the Masters Graduate School of Planning and Geography are encouraged to attend our events and can gain a non-credited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificate once they have attended at least 10 events, including evening lectures, lunch time seminars and conferences. This exposes our Masters students to a wide range of policies, themes and issues which they can then link to their area of study.
