Urban Design Lifetime Achievement Award

The Urban Design Group awarded Professor John Punter the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014 at their annual National Urban Design Awards 2014 ceremony.

The award is recognition of his major contribution to the development of our understanding of design quality, through his years of tireless research around the globe on planning, design and regeneration. He has worked in universities in Canada, Australia, England, Scotland and, significantly, in Wales at Cardiff University where he has played a central role in the team behind the highly successful MA Urban Design. In so doing he has inspired a generation of urban designers who will serve society in 21st century.

Also at the awards, 3 students from the MA Urban Design course were shortlisted for the Student Award. They were:

  • Shen Gaojie - Designing ordinary, everyday marketplaces: An alternative regeneration approach for Wushan (Cixi, China)
  • Akolade Akiyode - Rethinking the High Street, Swansea
  • Tong Shu - New Home - Critical Learning from Chinese Work Unit: From Urban Design to Social Sustainability
