Dr Peter Mackie

Peter has a broad set of research and teaching interests that cannot easily be assigned to a single discipline. Trained as a Human Geographer, his PhD focussed on children’s involvement in the informal sector and today the informal sector in developing areas continues to be a focus of Peter’s work. On completion of his PhD Peter took up the Senior Researcher post at a homelessness charity where his research inevitably focused on housing and homelessness policy. As a Lecturer at Cardiff University, he continues to undertake research which informs housing and homelessness policy in Wales, Europe and North America, whilst also drawing upon and developing theoretical insights. Children and young people have been a key focus in Peter’s informal sector studies and his housing and homelessness research, hence this forms a third topic in which Peter is interested.
