Current Job:
Student Counsellor, Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL), Germany

Why did you choose Cardiff University as a place to study?

Cardiff Uni was a partner university of my home university in Hannover/Germany.

What was the best thing about your time as a student at Cardiff?

The lectures and the way the professors teached us. Our study trip to institutions of the EU in Brussels. My fellow students and flatmates from different nations and the pubs in Cardiff we visited.

What thing or person inspired you most whilst you were a Cardiff University student?

Professor Kevin Morgan.

How did your degree most help you in the career or job you have now chosen?

It helps me to show that I am a flexible and highly motivated person as I studied in a foreign country. Furthermore it shows that I am very interested in the European Union and its policy especially for the European regions. Because of that I got a traineeship at the European Parliament Office in Edinburgh supported by its scholarship scheme.

Tell us a bit about your current job, how you got into what you are doing and what you enjoy about it most.

I am student counsellor for prospective students from Germany and from other parts of the world. I inform them about the university system, degree programmes on our two campuses in Berlin, study options for high school students, structure of courses, application and admission with or without a German university entrance qualification, scholarships and financial support, change of degree programme, and help students who face problems during their studies. Furthermore, I also give presentations at schools and run information stalls at education fairs. As a member of the selection committee at BSEL I award the German Academic Exchange (DAAD) prize for outstanding international students.

Tell us any interesting facts about yourself, hobbies or interests that you have.

I enjoyed my time abroad so much that I decided to complete internships in Dublin and Edinburgh. I am very interested in university systems worldwide and I always visit the universities when I am in a new city. I love music from singer/songwriter. In my spare time I also work for an independent radio making interviews, playing songs from unknown singer, giving news, etc.
