Workshop Details

  • This workshop aims to help you conquer exam anxiety.

Anxiety is a normal emotion to have when faced with the stress of exams.  A little bit of anxiety helps to focus us on the task in hand, too much is debilitating and overwhelms us, preventing us being able to focus clearly, sleep properly, and think straight or complete even simple tasks.

This workshop is designed to help you better understand how anxiety impacts on your thoughts, feelings and body (how you behave and how feel physically).  

You’ll be taught effective strategies to gain control over your anxiety, enabling you to concentrate and think clearly when studying for and sitting your exams.  It will include cognitive behavioural therapy techniques to help you recognise and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and relaxation techniques to help you calm your body.

Remember - you're here at Cardiff University because you're intelligent and are more than capable of succeeding. The tough bit is the anxiety and nerves that can make taking exams seem almost impossible to cope with. Everyone finds exams scary - some are just better at hiding it!

Coping strategies that you learn in this workshop will stand you in good stead in the workplace too. Working to deadlines, planning your time and communicating well with others are all skills that many of you will use every day throughout your working life. Gaining control of your anxiety will enable you to develop these skills effectively and thus improve your employability.
