Mindfulness - 4 Week Workshop
These sessions are run over a 4 week period.
In essence, mindfulness facilitates an approach to life which develops a greater capacity to be fully present, with awareness and acceptance of whatever may be experienced in this moment. It encourages a shift from the constant 'doing' approach to life, to one that may be described as a 'being' mode. It has been shown to be beneficial in the improvement of physical and psychological difficulties. These range from stress and depression, to physical pain. Recent and ongoing research has demonstrated favourable results in how mindfulness is able to affect areas in the brain which govern 'self soothing' and empathy, for example.
The series of workshops will introduce you to formal mindfulness meditation techniques and explore ways to become mindful in daily life.
Why not give it a try? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Please wear comfortable loose, layered clothing and bring along a yoga mat or something similar to lie on, together with a light blanket/throw.
By encouraging a more accepting and non judgemental attitude, mindfulness helps you to develop a better relationship with yourself and, in turn, other people. This will be of benefit whilst you are at university and also in the workplace, when good team working skills are so important. Mindfulness also enables you to be sensitive to your needs around self care and has been proven to be very effective in managing stress.
