Sessional Counsellors
The Counselling Division comprises of a Staff Counselling Service and a Student Counselling Service.
Cardiff University Counselling Division is BACP Accredited, delivering safe, ethical and high quality counselling and other wellbeing options to the whole of the University Community. Most core counsellors are accredited and two supervisors are also BACP Accredited Supervisors. The Counselling Division works with approximately 1500 clients a year.
Student Counselling
Counselling for students is provided in the Student Support Centres at Cathays Park and at the Heath Park Campus where students studying for the healthcare professions are based. Staff counselling is based in a separate provision at Cathays Park. The Counselling Division enjoys an excellent reputation within the University as well as nationally. In 2010 Cardiff University Counselling Service was awarded the BACP Innovation Award for the “Cardiff Model” that provides a managed care approach for students. This provides a clear and structured model of working that ensures equality and rapid access. The model provides time limited counselling with a significant proportion of students opting for single session therapy.
Staff Counselling
The Staff Counselling Service follows a traditional EAP model and provides a range of additional services including the Relief Series and Beating the Blues. This is housed separately to the Student Counselling however in very close proximity.
The Staff Counselling Service contributes to the University Positive Working Environment initiative as well as supporting several HR policies.
