The idea

"Mental health is a big issue in Grangetown and so we want to provide a supportive, welcoming group of local people who can help promote mental wellbeing and share stories.

We would like to work with local charities to develop the group and offer access to activities which promote wellbeing, such as yoga."

Progress

The first event: Mental Health and Wellbeing Day was launched in December 2015 in the Grange Gardens Bowls Pavilion and aimed to bring the topic of mental health into the Grangetown community. The event attracted several very high profile speakers such as a representative from Nexus who gave a presentation on 'Involvement in older people's mental health' and Solace who gave a presentation on 'Support for people who have been affected by memory problems, dementia, depression or other mental illness.'

Mental Health and Wellbeing Day 2017

The event is now in it's 3rd year with the next event taking place on Tuesday 10 October between 10:30 and 15:00 at the Grange Pavilion, Grange Gardens.

What's happening

This year we are once again aiming to strengthen and expand relationships, celebrating World Mental Health Day with community members and local providers. The focus will be on mental health & well being, working collaboratively and focusing on future developments that will be drawn out during the day.

What will be gained

A sense of belonging and a positive feeling about being proactive in helping to make changes that are led by the needs of the community in relation to mental health and well being. There will be an opportunity to find out about
local services and groups that people can access directly or family members/carers and how the Grange Pavilion and other Community Gateway projects can help with people’s well-being.

Who it's for

Everyone! The day is inclusive to all members of the community and surrounding areas as this will help generate discussions about future plans and ideas.
