Postgraduate Cardiff Neuroscience Society (PCNS)
The CNC has set up a neuroscience society specifically for postgraduate students that have a neuroscience interest. The Postgraduate Cardiff Neuroscience Society (PCNS) aims to bring neuroscience students across Cardiff closer, both academically and socially and to shed a broader light on neuroscience for the postgraduate community as a whole. The PCNS aims to organise neuroscience cafe's every 2 months, discussing contemporary topics in media and neuroscience to bring neuroscience and society together (previous cafe's have discussed consciousness, memory and pathology, upcoming neuroscience cafe's will discuss stem cell research and science & media). These neuroscience cafe's are very informal events and are attend by a large number of both neuroscience and non-science postgraduates. Interspersed with these science cafes we organise social events for the neuroscience community in Cardiff, such as drinks receptions, curry nights, pub visits and possibly movie screening.
Nick Puts, a 2nd year neuroscience PhD student in the School of Biosciences is the current chair of the PCNS steering group, and can be contacted by e-mail - putsna@cardiff.ac.uk
