Technology Advancements

Increased understanding of the molecular basis of cell ageing and tissue repair following TRAUMA OR SURGERY is providing a rationale for the design of new "smart" biomimetic materials to REPLACE damaged tissue and accelerate wound healing. In addition novel polymer based nanotechnologies are being designed to aid selective delivery of therapeutic proteins or genes able to promote repair at the cellular level.

The multi-disciplinarity of CITER provides a unique forum for biomaterial design and characterisation, and preclinical and clinical evaluation in the context of wound healing, the artificial cornea, innovative dental applications, improved orthopaedic implants and biodegradable scaffolds/stem cells for tissue engineering.
