Research Expertise relevant to tissue engineering & repair:
My expertise relies in the characterisation of a variety of biological tissues at different hierarchical levels. This has mostly been through the examination of intact (explanted) tissues by X-ray diffraction at synchrotron sources and using in house equipment. I have also used neutron scattering where appropriate. Work has mostly been on tendon, skin zonules, bone and chordae tendonae. I also have an interest in the changes to these structures as a function of post mortem condition, UV irradiation, heat and mechanical damage.
