Relevant Key Words:
Cartilage biology, human cartilage progenitors, Notch signalling pathway, cartilage repair.
Research Expertise relevant to tissue engineering & repair:
My current research is focused on investigating human cartilage progenitor cells. As well as investigating the biology of these cells, I am involved in developing the cells to GMP level for use in an allogeneic cell-based repair product for cartilage defects. My previous research into cartilage development in the avian model and how the Notch signalling pathway is involved in this process has continued throughout my research. My PhD investigated the effects of mechanical strain on synovial cells harvested from osteoarthritic patients, in terms of hyaluronan synthesis and hyaluronan synthase expression.
