Research Expertise relevant to tissue engineering & repair:
My research interests are focussed on normal bone physiology, as well as on the pathophysiology of bone disease. More specifically current research projects can be summarised as:-
- normal osteoclastogenesis and osteoclast function
- the influences of chemotherapy on bone cell number and function in relation to childhood leukaemia
- the effects of growth hormone deficiency and growth hormone treatment on bone
- the control of bone marrow stromal cell differentiation into osteoblasts and adipocytes
- the role of purinergic receptors (especially adenosine receptors and the P2X7 receptor) in bone cells
- targeting ion channels as potential new therapies for bone disease
- co-cultures of different bone cell types
- phytoestrogens and bone
If you have reagents that may be of interest to the CITER Membership, e.g. cell lines, microbiological cultures. Please give a representative list below:
I have numerous osteoblast, osteoclast and osteocyte cell lines stored in liquid nitrogen. I also often use primary animal and human bone cells.
