Research Expertise relevant to tissue engineering & repair:
My research interests are focussed on the pathophysiology of bone diseases eg osteoporosis, osteoarthritis. More specifically current research projects can be summarised as:-
- development of 3D models to study bone cells in vitro
- responses of osteocytes to mechanical loading
- the influences of chemotherapy on bone cell number and function in relation to childhood leukaemia
- the role of the osteocyte in the development of osteonecrosis
- effects of growth hormone deficiency and growth hormone treatment on bone
- the control of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell differentiation into osteoblasts and adipocytes
- the role of purinergic receptors (especially adenosine receptors) in bone cells
- targeting ion channels as potential new therapies for bone disease
- co-cultures (especially 3D) of different bone cell types
If you have reagents that may be of interest to the CITER Membership, e.g. cell lines, microbiological cultures. Please give a representative list below:
Numerous osteoblast, osteoclast and osteocyte cell lines stored in liquid nitrogen. I also often use primary animal or human bone cells.
