The application of confocal microscopy and other high resolution imaging techniques to an understanding of the cellular developmental mechanisms underlying the three-dimensional organisation of oriented connective tissues (e.g. intervertebral disc, tendon, articular cartilage, cornea), with a view towards replicating these mechanisms in repair.
