Surface Chemistry: Reaction Mechanisms, Intermediates and Pathways with Atomic Resolution

We use surface sensitive spectroscopy to identify the reaction intermediates and products of simple reactions (predominantly at metal surfaces.) In this way we gain an insight into the complex chemistry involved in many surface mediated processes, for example, heterogeneous catalysis, corrosion and adhesion. We have facilities combining the atomic resolution of STM with the chemical information of XPS. This allows us to explore the chemistry of the surface at the atomic scale.
Some aspects of our work (including some pretty pictures of atoms) are illustrated in the case studies and the STM gallery.
