Salters’ Festival of Chemistry
19 April 2010

On Wednesday 24th March the School of Chemistry hosted a Salters’ Festival of Chemistry, welcoming sixty Year 7 and 8 pupils from fifteen different schools from Wales and England. The Festival involved two laboratory-based sessions followed by an interactive DVD science quiz and prize-giving. The morning Salters’ Challenge involved a forensics investigation using chromatography and test-tube tests to solve a crime; the afternoon University Challenge required formation of solutions to give accurate ‘chemical clocks’.
The Festivals are an initiative organised by the Salters Institute (www.saltersinstitute.co.uk) in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry.
