Dr Zhongfu Zhou, who is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the research group of Professor Kenneth Harris, has been awarded the Computational Physics Thesis Prize of the Institute of Physics for 2005/6. This prestigious award, which is presented for the best PhD thesis in Computational Physics in the United Kingdom, was based on his research for the D.Phil. degree in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford. His thesis, entitled Electron microscopy and elastic diffuse scattering of nanostructures, was carried out under the supervision of Professor Adrian Sutton, Dr Mike Jenkins and Dr Sergei Dudarev. His current postdoctoral research at Cardiff is focused on advancing new computational methodologies for carrying out structure determination from powder X-ray diffraction data.
