Clare Morton Wins Welsh Livery Guild Award
27 July 2011
1st Year Postgraduate student Clare Morton, a researcher in Professor Mike Bowker's group, has been awarded a prestigious Welsh Livery Guild award. The Guild was established for the purpose of promoting the arts, science and technology in Wales and one of the ways in which they do this is through awarding travel scholarships to enable recipients to travel abroad and to undertake a study project which will significantly assist in furthering their careers and enhancing and developing their talents.
Clare is planning to use the scholarship to travel to Berlin and work in the Molecular Beam group based in the Chemical Physics department at the Fritz-Haber Institute under the supervision of Dr. Swetlana Schauermann for five weeks. This will give Clare an opportunity to learn their approach to growing thin oxide films and their use of molecular beams to study the dynamics and kinetics of gas-surface reactions in catalysis, and apply this knowledge to her own research here at Cardiff University.
