How to Apply

Physical Chemistry Research

All applications for a place on any of the degree schemes in the Cardiff School of Chemistry should come through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

Conditional offers are based on the UCAS application form for most candidates offering a regular subject combination at A-level or equivalent vocational qualification examinations.

Entry Requirements

Applications are considered from candidates offering a range of qualifications, the majority of applicants being A-level students. We expect a minimum of grade A in Chemistry for the MChem programme with two other good A-levels. For the BSc programme we also expect a minimum of grade B in Chemistry, supported by at least one other subject, which is normally a science or a mathematical subject. A third A-level subject is preferred, but a subject at AS-level will be considered.

Typical conditional offers will be AAB-ABB (340-320 points) for the MChem, and ABB-BBB (320-300 points) for the BSc, depending on subjects and other background.

A typical offer for applicants studying the International Baccalaureate qualification would be 32 points, with 6 in both Chemistry and one from Biology, Physics or Mathematics at the higher level. Applicants applying with the Welsh Baccalaureate would be made an offer depending on the combination of other subjects undertaken at A-Level

Applications are welcomed from mature-age candidates and from those with non - A Level qualifications e.g ACCESS.

UCAS Visit Days

All applicants likely to meet our entrance requirements are invited to visit Cardiff and the School on one of our UCAS visit days held during the application period. A choice of visit days is offered. The visits commence with a buffet lunch with current undergraduate students, and includes an informal interview, a talk on our Chemistry programmes, and tours of the School and the facilities. Parents or guardians are welcome to accompany applicants on their visit, and a separate programme is arranged for them.

Prior to coming to the School of Chemistry, there is an opportunity to visit the student residences at Talybont South.
