Flash Bang Wallop
"Flash, Bang, Wallop" is one of our touring chemistry shows. Uncover some of the secrets of chemical reactions – especially those of a spectacular kind! An exciting show that illustrates the magic of Chemistry and blows the lid of its dusty image.
L-R: i. Nickel chloride with ammonia highlighting the beautiful colours commonly formed by metals ii. How to make the perfect gin and tonic. Run out of ice-cubes? Freeze the lemon in liquid nitrogen!! iii. Iron sulphate, why do some metals react very quickly but others only very slowly under the same conditions? Curious!
Chemistry is a fascinating subject and although the emphasis in the chemistry show will be on showcasing spectacular reactions which involve, heat, light (colour) and sound. The underlying theme, delivered in an entertaining way, explores what drives chemical reactions and how understanding chemical reactions is crucial if we are to successfully tackle some of the key problems faced by modern society. Chemists have key roles to play in everyone’s future.
L-R: i.The ‘Barking Dog’. What drives chemical reactions? We have it all here; heat, light and sound ii.It’s custard Jim, but not as we know it! Why is dust such a potentially dangerous fire hazard? iii.White hot thermite. Some chemical reactions are spectacularly exothermic.
If you are interested in booking one of our shows, please contact us in the first instance Professor P. G. Edwards: email@example.com to discuss requirements and any attendant costs or charges. We are able to tailor our shows to suit the composition of the audience, or the available facilities at the venue (e.g. directing it towards the educational level of school pupils, enhancing the 'entertainment' value for public audiences, shortening or lengthening the show to fit specific time-slots, etc.) and we would need to discuss the local facilities and requirements we might have to ensure that we would be able to deliver; clearly the cost of delivering a particular show will vary. We will then send you a booking form and make arrangements accordingly.
