Muslim chaplain at Cardiff University
Responsibilities:
As a part of the Chaplaincy team, I’m based at Darulisra Muslim Education Welfare Centre and I support students from a variety of Muslim school of thoughts, Mazhabs and backgrounds, along with many students who practice other religions or those of no specific faith affiliation. Also, I manage Darulisra Centre, and support the Cardiff University Islamic Society in their efforts.
Whilst I will be a regular visitor to the University’s campus, I will be based at the Darulisra Muslim Educational and Welfare Centre in Cathays.
Experience:
I’ve been working with the Muslim community of Cardiff since 2000 as well being as a graduate, gaining a MSc and PhD from the School of Engineering. I was recently appointed as the first Muslim chaplain to Cardiff University in October 2011 and I also hold a Certificate in the Training of Muslim Chaplains from the Markfield Institute of Higher Education. I have an active role in supporting the community through my role as the manager of the Darulisra Centre. I also serve as a member of the Muslim Council of Wales. I was a research associate working on Muslim Family project in the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University for the period 2008-2010 and the whole community of Wales as a member of the Muslim council of Wales (MCW). I managed the Islamic Social Support Association Wales (ISSA-Wales) for six month and developed many personal and managerial skills.
Areas of Interest:
I am interested in building a cohesive community by establishing bridges between various individuals, groups and communities. I am married and have three children and love being part of their growth and development. I play football but gently. Also, I like to learn about different cultures and traditions.
