In January 2011 CGLR will be hosting two conferences to honour the contribution of Professor Theo Nichols to the study of labour. The two events are scheduled for January 11-12 and all are welcome.

The first event is being organized jointly with the Cardiff Work Environment Research Centre (CWERC) and will mark Theo’s contribution to the issue of health and safety at work. The Safety or Profit? conference will feature invited speakers from the academic and policy worlds from Britain, Europe and other countries and will review current debate over workplace safety. Papers delivered at the conference will be published in a special issue of Policy and Practice in Occupational Health and Safety. For further information, including booking information, please visit this page: Safety or Profit

On the second day, the Capitalism and Work conference will examine Theo’s broader contribution to the sociology of work and labour. Papers on this day will explore some of the main themes in Theo’s work, including labour process analysis, the sociology of management, and comparative analysis of work relations. A selection of papers will be published in Work, Employment and Society, a journal once edited by Theo.
