Careers Work with Academic Schools
The Careers Service has 7 FTE Career Consultants, all of whom have areas of specialism and who are responsible for individual departments. When a student books a 30-minute Career Consultation, they will be automatically allocated to the Career Consultant who specialises in their degree subject area.
The Career Management Skills (CMS) Programme consists of a series of 50-minute career planning workshops designed to help with the process of finding and securing a job. These are delivered in Departments by either the CMS tutors, the Work Experience Manager or Academic Staff.
The Centre for Work Experience is at 5 Corbett Road and houses GO Wales and the Work Experience Manager. Students and graduates can apply for placements and work tasters throughout Wales in large organisations and in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Careers Liaison Officer (CLO) is usually an academic member of staff who is given a careers role as an additional responsibility; he/she is usually appointed by the Head of Department. The CLO works with the career consultant who is responsible for that department.
Each year the University is required by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) to carry out the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey of UK and EU graduates (the Careers Service has chosen to also survey international students). The survey includes undergraduates and postgraduates and those studying both full and part time. The Careers Service is responsible for this survey.
The Careers Service works closely with a number of Academic Schools to organise subject specific careers events including: Engineering & Technology, Business and Law Fairs. Our careers fairs, events and work with employers are all highlighted in our What's On pages. Should you wish to find out more or discuss any ideas for a potential event in your School, please contact our Employer Liaison & Marketing Team.
