Employabiity Workshops

Employability Workshops are your chance to get help, advice and information on all elements of the recruitment process.

Workshops are delivered by Career Consultants and are typically 50 minutes long, unless otherwise stated.

Workshops are open to students, graduates and postgraduate of all years, academic schools and degree disciplines and include:

• Applying for Teacher Training

  This session aims to simplify the application process for teaching, whilst giving an insight into what admissions tutors really look for.

• Assessment Centre - Group Discussion (1½ hours)

  An insight into what happens at an Assessment Centre, with an opportunity to take part in an observed group discussion.

• Converting to Law 

  No legal knowledge required! This workshop provides an idea of the costs, time-scales, hurdles and eventual outcomes for students studying non-law subjects and contemplating this competitive career route for the first time.

• CVs

  This workshop shows you how to design a CV in the way that is best for you and the job you want. It will also teach you the importance of targeting your CV to employers.

• Prepare to Meet Graduate Recruiters

  This session will help you prepare for our autumn careers fairs providing you with tips on how to make the most of these events.

• International Students: CV Writing

  This workshop shows you how to use effective language to design a CV that is right for the UK job market.

• International Students: Employment Regulations

  This presentation is an up-to-date overview of the employment regulations for non-EU graduates.

• International Students: Work Experience Ideas

  Add value to your UK study experience. Check out work experience opportunities and challenges.

• Finding a Job

  This workshop will distinguish between the facts and myths about the recession and outline the sources of further help available and how to access them.

• Haven’t a Clue What I Want To Do

  This presentation provides you with a simple formula and an action plan to help you begin to get some focus.

• The Interview

  This workshop will help you prepare effectively for interview, by looking at interview structure, lines of questioning and a practical exercise on competency based questions.

• Application Forms

  This workshop will help you to understand what the selector is looking for and will give you tips to help you bring a professional edge to your future applications.

• What Can I do With a Degree in Humanities?

  This workshop provides an insight into the wide range of jobs open to graduates in Humanities and Social Science.

Careers & Employability Drop-in Session

• Should I Disclose My Dyslexia/Disability or Health Condition to an Employer

  Come along and explore reasons for and against disclosure, when to disclose and how to do it in a way that markets your skills effectively.
