Cardiff Branch of the Coleg Cymraeg
The Cardiff Branch is a key part of the machinery of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, providing an important link between the Coleg and Welsh-medium Education at Cardiff University.
In this way the Cardiff branch has a dual function: first of all discussing national developments and feeding recommendations back to the Academic Board of the Coleg; and similarly, reflecting on Cardiff University’s plans for the development of Welsh-medium education and feeding our advice back into the University’s committee structures.
We also take an active role in promoting, monitoring and advising on Welsh-medium activities across all Schools at Cardiff University and in partnership with other providers of HE in Wales. We identify proposals and opportunities to further improve the current provision in line with the University’s targets to increase the percentage of students studying through the medium of Welsh.
We also enthusiastically promote membership of the Coleg among students and staff, particularly those students who follow modules through Y Porth, the Coleg’s Welsh-medium e-learning portal. We hold regular meetings, ensuring that the Branch has a visible presence within the institution as the natural point of contact for students and staff involved in Welsh-medium education. We shall continue to build the Branch in this way to ensure that we are a full part of the wider life of the University.
