Organizational Strategy, Structure, and Process: A Reflection on the Research Perspective of Miles and Snow
Thirty years ago Raymond Miles and Charles Snow published Organizational Strategy, Structure, and Process. Their book made a seminal contribution to the management literature and has stimulated several streams of research.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the publication of the book, members of Cardiff Business School and the School of City and Regional Planning have organized a two-day conference reflecting on the contribution of the research perspective of Miles and Snow.

The re-accreditation means that all students graduating on the Strategic

Burberry's decision to close its Torfaen factory and move operations to China has created controversy throughout Wales and beyond.
Celebrities such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Emma Thompson, Martin Sheen and Ioan Gruffydd rushed to back workers due to lose their jobs; demonstrations were held outside Burberry stores in London, New York, Paris, Strasbourg, Chicago and Las Vegas. Burberry was even prompted to cancel its post-Brit Awards party for fear of disruption.
It is a backlash that the British-owned company could not have expected.

Laws which aim to keep people with disabilities in the workplace can often have the opposite effect and lead to ill-health, absence and in some cases bullying.
And the National Health Service (NHS), along with other public sector bodies,
demonstrates an absence of effective procedures to deal with requests for

Nine students from Cardiff Business School have launched a not-for-profit distribution company. Two Distribute is dedicated to finding UK businesses to stock ethical water brand One.
All profits from selling the water go to South African charity, Playpumps
International. The charity builds and installs merry-go-rounds in African
Villages which pump water from deep underground to a storage tank each time
children play on them.

Cardiff Business School is pursuing two hallmarks of excellence for Business
Schools from two leading international accreditation bodies and has recently
secured membership of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business (AACSB). If successful, Cardiff Business School will become one
of only 10 AACSB accredited business schools and 16 EQUIS accredited business
schools in the UK.

Cardiff Business School has recently been accepted a member of both the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the European Federation of Management Development (EFMD). Membership of these bodies means that Cardiff becomes part of the leading international networks in the fields of management development and business school advancement. The School will benefit from having access to a European and global network of management education institutions, companies, public sector organisations and consultancies.
Claire Morgan, Associate Dean, said of the new memberships, 'We're already seeing the benefits of our membership of these bodies: the pan-School training opportunities, specialist interest groups and opportunities to share best practice will give us the chance to network with faculty of the leading business schools in the world and thereby increase the global presence of Cardiff Business School."
25/05/2007: Dean elected to Association of Business School executive
Cardiff Business School Dean Professor Bob McNabb has been elected to the Association of Business School executive. The Association of Business Schools (ABS) is the representative body and authoritative voice for all the leading business schools of UK universities, higher education institutions and independent management colleges.
Professor McNabb was elected to this position by the Deans and Directors of other Business Schools throughout the UK who are ABS voting representatives. He will retain his place on both the ABS' Research Steering Committee and the Committee for Wales.
