The Cochrane Building
This striking new building offers facilities for all five healthcare schools on the Heath Park Campus.
The new Cochrane Building
Its features include:
- A new library, integrating the present Duthie and Ty Dewi Sant facilities
- Modern clinical skills and high-tech simulation laboratories
- Postgraduate teaching areas
- Seminar space
- Wireless access to on-line services
- Student support services
- The Dean of Medicine’s offices
One function of the new building will be to provide a home space for students on the Heath complex, along with the new lecture theatre building and IV Lounge, both of which are nearby.
The new Centre is a particular strategic key for the School of Medicine. It gives the School a “front door” and meet most of the day to day needs of its students.
The increased opportunities for contact between the different healthcare disciplines will also create new opportunities for interprofessional learning and future professional collaborations.
The transfer of facilities from the main Heath Park building will open up space for the University’s partners in Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board.
The building has been developed by the Estates Division and local planning consultants Powell Dobson. It aims to reach the highest standard of environmental excellence, making use of natural ventilation and lighting and other sustainable features.
