English Language Programmes

International students

The English Language Programmes section is Cardiff University's official English language teaching centre for international students.  Its four main aims are:

  • to enable suitably academically qualified international students to enter the University by developing their language, study skills and academic awareness to an appropriate level, through high quality pathway programmes;
  • to support current Undergraduate and Postgraduate students to develop language and study skills which enable them to maximise their academic potential at the University;
  • to offer a professional IELTS examination service;
  • to offer advice and guidance to the University on English language and study skills matters, including the English Language Policy and examination equivalences.

The programmes offered are:

ACADEMIC YEAR

The International Foundation Programme is a one-year academic programme designed to give students the academic and English language skills needed to enter a variety of degree programmes at Cardiff University.  It is the only Foundation Programme that offers guaranteed progression into the University.

The Bridge Programme is a full-time English language and study skills course.  To cater for different needs and abilities, the Bridge Programme has three entry points: September, January and April.

The In-sessional Programme offers English language and study skills support to international students during their time at Cardiff.

SUMMER

The Pre-sessional Programme (11-week and 8-week courses) is a highly intensive summer programme designed specifically for students with onward offers to study at Cardiff University the following September.

YEAR ROUND

The IELTS Test Centre offers a selection of IELTS test dates each month throughout the year.
