New Chair of Council

Former chairman of GE Healthcare Limited and senior operational leader of the largest medical research funder in the UK, Mr John Jeans has been appointed as Chair of the University's Council.

Mr Jeans has had a successful career in the medical device, pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries, holding senior roles including Executive Vice President at Nycomed Amersham International PLC, which later became GE Healthcare Limited. He was also the first Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer of the Medical Research Council (MRC) and Chairman of MRC Technology, responsible for the commercialisation of MRC intellectual property.

Mr Jeans will succeed eminent immunologist Sir Keith Peters as the University's Chair of Council with effect from 16 January 2012. His term of office will run until 2015.

Mr Jeans is already familiar with the University having chaired one of Cardiff's multi-disciplinary advisory committees. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Council for Wales and Chair of Imanova, a joint venture between the MRC, Imperial, Kings and University Colleges.

Cadeirydd Newydd i'r Cyngor

Mae cyn gadeirydd GE Healthcare Limited ac uwch arweinydd gweithredol ariannwr ymchwil feddygol mwyaf y DU, Mr John Jeans, wedi cael ei benodi'n Gadeirydd Cyngor y Brifysgol.

Mae Mr Jeans wedi cael gyrfa lwyddiannus yn y diwydiannau dyfeisiau meddygol, fferyllol a diagnostig, ac wedi bod mewn rolau uwch, gan gynnwys Is-lywydd Gweithredol gyda Nycomed Amersham International PLC, a ddaeth yn GE Healthcare Limited yn ddiweddarach. Ef hefyd oedd Dirprwy Prif Swyddog Gweithredol cyntaf a Phrif Swyddog Gweithredu'r Cyngor Ymchwil Feddygol (MRC) a Chadeirydd Technoleg MRC, sy'n gyfrifol am fasnacheiddio eiddo deallusol MRC.

Bydd Mr Jeans yn olynu'r imiwnolegydd enwog, Syr Keith Peters, fel Cadeirydd Cyngor y Brifysgol, o 16 Ionawr 2012. Bydd ei gyfnod yn y swydd yn para tan 2015.

Mae Mr Jeans eisoes yn gyfarwydd â'r Brifysgol ar ôl cadeirio un o bwyllgorau ymgynghorol amlddisgyblaethol Caerdydd. Mae hefyd yn aelod o Gyngor Cynghori ar Wyddoniaeth Cymru a Chadeirydd Imanova, menter ar y cyd rhwng MRC, a Cholegau Imperial, Kings ac University.
