Significant Increase in Undergraduate Recruitment for Biosciences

12 April 2012

New BIOSI building

Undergraduate applications have significantly increased for Cardiff School of Biosciences despite the increase in tuition fees that has come into force this year.

Figures released by UCAS show an 8% increase in applications on last year.

Professor Bernard Moxham, Head of Teaching at Cardiff School of Biosciences, was extremely pleased to hear the report, noting that:

“The increase in our application rate underpins the popularity of Cardiff University degrees and, in particular, that Biosciences is a good place to study.  We are particularly proud that our programmes have been commended in the 2011 National Student Survey (NSS) with an overall satisfaction rate of 93% and above, a satisfaction rate, which is at least 5 percentage points above the UK average for corresponding subject areas.  In comparison to 2010, there has been a significant increase in student satisfaction across our degree programmes, with some programmes maintaining a high position in the resulting league tables.   As one of the largest Biosciences Schools in the UK, offering twelve different undergraduate degree programmes, this report is particularly encouraging.”
