First Field Course of 2011 - Uni of Glamorgan

From 4 to 12 April, 27 students and four staff from the University of Veterinary Glamorgan in Wales, UK took part in a one-week field course on Biodiversity Assessment Techniques. Under the leadership of Drs Roy Wiles, Emma Hayhurst, Richard Unsworth and Richard Barton, the students were introduced to capture-recapture techniques, morphometric characterization and taxonomic identification of small mammals, standard census techniques, bird and bat mistnetting, amphibian and reptilian identification and survey, crocodile and primate surveys, freshwater invertebrates ecology, camera trapping, etc. They benefited from the experience of our two PTYs Rob Colgan and Rodi Tenquist, our two MRes students Luke Evans and Sarah Scriven, and our in-house primatologist Danica Stark. DGFC staff provided great hospitality, which was highly praised = by the 31 field course participants.
