Cornwall College Newquay visits DGFC

Cornwall College Group with DGFC staff, students, volunteers and visitors

Andrew Smart (Head of Centre) led a team of eight participants together with Hazel Selley (Lecturer in Zoology) and Raoul Humphreys (Deputy Chief Executive) of Cornwall College Newquay. They spent 10 days at Danau Girang Field Centre, during which they carried out primate surveys, estimated bird diversity based on recordings, surveyed riparian birds on the Kinabatangan river, trapped small mammals for identification, compared terrestrial mollusc diversity between riparian and semi-inundated forests, surveyed the oxbow lake for crustaceans, evaluated species diversity in river benthos, investigated fish species and established a 3D model of the river.

Andrew is already looking forward to his next visit in the summer of 2011, hopefully with twice as many students.
