On 18 March 2011, the Asian Wetland School Network spent the morning learning about oxbow lake systems and the wildlife associated with them at Danau Girang. Approximately 50 students and staff from Malaysia, South Korea, China, Bangladesh, Thailand and Japan arrived first thing in the morning and were introduced to Danau Girang Field Centre. Students were split into small groups led by the volunteers at Danau Girang. They attended lectures on the primates and crocodiles of the Kinabatangan floodplain, and had hands on experience with camera trapping and frog identification. The students showed enthusiasm for their future involvement in conservation.

This was the 3rd annual event of the Asian Wetland School Network, developed to educate students on the importance of the wetlands and their conservation in Asia.
