My PhD aims to test the effects of co-infections on host population dynamics. To date I have explored host-parasite interactions during single infections, looking at the effects of parasitism on host life history and the consequences for host and pathogen population dynamics. This work will be extended to explore population dynamics of hosts with parasites that have conflicting strategies by using both macro and microparasites. By creating mathematical models of these interactions at the population level, we can adapt this system to other host-parasite scenarios, improving our understanding of host population change, disease transmission and the evolution of pathogen virulence.
