My current research focus is on regional governance and innovation system in low carbon technologies. It began with my involvement in EU Convergence program "Low Carbon Built Environment" in 2010, under which I got the opportunity to explore the linkages between innovation, technology deployment and market development within the context of built environment in Wales.
In past, my research has more focused on the policy and education in addressing sustainability in built environment in China. I have managed and worked on a number of research projects, including EU Asia Pro Eco project "Sustainable Urban Housing: strengthening capacity in policy formulation and implementation in the city of Xi'an"; Leverhulme Trust funded "International Network: Sustainable Building Design and Operation", and FCO China SPF Prosperity project "Planning for A Systemic Transition to Low Carbon Built Environment in China". These experiences have led to, in collaboration with Professor Phil Jones, two published reports "A Strategy for Sustainable Housing Development in the city of Xi'an" and "Low Carbon Guideline for Built Environment: master-planning and building design", which have been distributed among building professionals in China.
In addition to these research commitments, I have also been responsible for developing and coordinating the school's research and teaching links with Chinese organisations, including universities, government bodies and industrial partners in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Xi'an etc, which led to the establishment of Archi-China Research Centre in 2010.
