A discipline of digital design and a critical practice should concern itself with ubiquity (people), parametrics (rules), and tectonics (things). Ubiquity refers to the fact that digital information is rapidly becoming embedded in our daily lives. It enables collaborative interactions. Parametrics concerns itself with the rules governing the design process. A parametric approach to design elucidates its conceptual as well as tectonic structures. Lastly, tectonics advocates the view that architecture will always be embedded in its tradition of attention to material, assemblage, and detail. Digital fabrication brings new possibilities to the translation of the virtual into the material. Thus, the triad of people, rules, and things forms the core of my research focus.

Ubiquity – People
Parametrics – Rules
Tectonics – Things
