Wayne Forster conducts practice based research predominantly through the Design Research Unit of the Welsh School of Architecture. A number of projects have been designed and constructed over the past decade in which the nature of architecture and building which is specific to region and place has been explored. The principal means of investigation have been through studies related to site, climate and materials and construction.
The projects are often conducted through means of a collaborative process with members of the the Design Research Unit and supported School’s Centre for Research in the Built Environment and its environmental laboratory.
Themes related to tradition and innovation, simple forms, craft and systems and drawing processes have emerged from this work.
In addition and through the activities of the Design Research Unit, interests have necessarily focused on the dynamics of practice and the young architect in practice.
