Early March, the Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI) launched its first overseas affiliate in China - Chongqing Low Carbon Research Centre, in a partnership with Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology (CAST), China, and in a recognition of the MOU signed in November 2009 between the two institutions. The newly established centre will play an important role in strengthening the communication and collaboration between the Wales and Chongqing in the fields of low carbon research and sustainable technology, and their commercial exploitation.
The launch of the Chongqing Low Carbon Research Centre has the support from Chongqing Municipal Government, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Climate Change Section of the British Embassy, and was marked by the 1st Wales-Chongqing Low Carbon Research Forum on 9th March 2010, which coincided with the “Wales Week 2010” in Chongqing.
Prof. Phil Jones and Yan Wang (ARCHI), Prof. Phil Bowen (ENGIN), Prof Alan Guwy (University of Glamorgan), Dr Ian Masters (Swansea University), and the industrial partners from Swanturbines and Enfis formed the LCRI team, attended the launch event and spoke on the Low Carbon Research Forum.
