WSA MSc 20 Year Celebration Success!

This year WSA is celebrating 20 years of our Masters programmes. As part of the celebration we held a poster competition with prizes awarded at our 20 year celebration alumni event! This event was timed to coincide with the Low Carbon Architectural Summer Programme, allowing our current students to appreciate some of the successes of our past students.

Eleven alumni took part in the competition, with entries from the first MSc cohort as well as from more recent students. The posters were judged by Dr Mike Fedeski (Masters Convenor 1993-2010) and Dr Paola Sassi (Course leader 2005-2008) who also attended the celebration. The winner was Dr Katerina Meresi who joined the Environmental Design of Buildings MSc in 2001 and who is currently an Architect at the Municipality of Dion as well as a lecturer at the Hellenic Open University in Greece.

There was also an informal vote on the day, which was judged by everyone attending the celebration event: alumni, summer school students and staff involved with the MSc courses.

The informal vote was won by Eftychia Eliopoulou who also attended the Environmental Design of Buildings MSc in 2001 and who is currently an Architect in Greece.

All the judges (formal and informal) agreed that the poster competition standard was very high and it was very difficult to judge a winner!

As well as judging the competition posters, everyone at the event had the opportunity to examine the new renewable energy generation research equipment installed on the roof of WSA - an interesting experience as well as a chance to bask in the rare Welsh sunshine!

A great time was had by all, with many suggestions that we should hold a similar event soon!

We did send invitations to all alumni we have current contact details for. If you did not receive an invite and would like to be kept up to date on any future MSc alumni events and activities, please send your current contact details to WSAMScAlumni@Cardiff.ac.uk

Kruti Gandhi, a Research Assistant with the Low Carbon Research Institute, who studied the Environmental Design of Buildings MSc in 2008 said:

"I'm glad to be involved in this celebration. The MSc has really helped me in my career."
