Research Associate, Low Carbon Research Institute.

Working under the Cross Cutting Themes and specifically on Scenario Modelling for a Low Carbon Wales. The objectives of this work package are to:

  • Critically review current scenarios and energy models to examine their utility in a Welsh context.
  • Compile a GIS database of Welsh energy resources, infrastructure and demand.
  • Specify an integrated ’Welsh Energy Transitions’ modelling framework capable of rigorously appraising the long-term carbon-reduction, economic and market potentials of the novel technologies and solutions being developed by the LCRI main themes of:
    • low carbon energy generation, storage and distribution (photovoltaics, hydrogen energy systems, marine energy, bioenergy) and
    • carbon reduction and energy efficiency (low/zero carbon built environment, large scale power generation)
  • Explore plausible pathways for a transition to a low carbon economy in Wales.

Research Interests
Mechanical Engineer, PhD, specialising in the area of energy and sustainability.

MSc and PhD work in the area of modelling energy consumption and air pollutant emissions from off-road transport modes: rail maritime and inland shipping, producing databases and indicators for the calculation of environmental burdens and potential benefits from modal shifts.

Further work for the European Commission, Joint Research Centre Institute for Energy, performing techno-economic assessments to examine the cost, feasibility and impact of the implementation of new energy technologies in the European context, in terms of competitiveness, sustainability and security of energy supply. Topics included carbon capture and storage, GHG reduction in power generation, further deployment and integration of renewable energy sources, hybrid electric vehicles, the sustainability of biofuels and Life Cycle Assessment of energy systems.
