Autumn Semester Design Project – Group Phase
Springfield, borough of Hackney
Urban Edge and the city
We were looking at a site in the Lea valley of London which is strongly urban yet also engages with issues of urban edge. The scope of the urban project was to investigate the relationship between architecture and its immediate wider context. Our underlying position is that the city is not a collection of object buildings but a dynamic structure (organism) of relationships between buildings, urban space(s) and lifestyle all considering low impact strategies (“sustainability”)
Stage 1: The students worked for the first two weeks in groups of 6. Each group had its own research aim entitled Time, Culture, Space or Economy. The group work was documented in a conclusive presentation and a data bank of knowledge to be shared with the rest of the year.
