Autumn Semester Design Project – Final Crit of Individual Project
Springfield, borough of Hackney
Urban Edge and the city
We were looking at a site in the Lea valley of London which is strongly urban yet also engages with issues of urban edge. The scope of the urban project was to investigate the relationship between architecture and its immediate wider context. Our underlying position is that the city is not a collection of object buildings but a dynamic structure (organism) of relationships between buildings, urban space(s) and lifestyle all considering low impact strategies (“sustainability”)
Stage 2: The students individually proposed an overall master plan in scale 1:500 focusing their investigations at a bigger scale. In arrangement with the personal tutors and based on the gained research knowledge the students could agree their own briefs for the site. It was only expected that the final proposals met a certain density and were not of one use, like housing only.
