Yi Lu graduated from Shenzhen University in China with a degree in architecture. She has been based at the Welsh School of Architecture since 2006 completing an MPhil and currently working on a PhD.
Yi Lu's research focuses on conserving and enhancing the overall fabric of a small market town in Wales. The overall aim of this research is to set up appropriate design principles to minimise the impact of intervention (within or close to the conservation area) to the fabric of heritage towns. The intervention includes any contemporary structures for the residents' wellbeing, sustainable requirements for town development, and extending an old building using modern materials and design language. As a design practical research, critical design practices in the studio are used as a research method and will also compose the main body of the research. It is hoped that this project will contribute to overcoming the issues inherent in existing approaches on the intangible issues of townscape in heritage towns.
