Responsibilities

  • Year One Chair, responsible for co-ordination and delivery of design studio teaching (Autumn Term, BSc1)
  • Vertical Studio Programme Co-ordinator: http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/archi/vertical-studio.php (Spring Term, BSc1 & 2)
  • Contributor to Architectural Technology teaching; lecturing on Construction & Building Regulations (BSc1 & 2)
  • Planning and development of design-orientated study tours and field trips
  • General studio support, including pastoral care to students

Practice Profile

Sam has worked within five London-based architecture offices; contributing to a variety of projects, ranging from private homes and social housing schemes through to school refurbishments and other commercial projects. Sam trained at Cambridge, Cardiff and Kingston Universities; qualified and registered as an Architect in 2008, and continues to combine practice with teaching. Sam is a founding member of architectural design collaborative ad:HOC (http://adhocarchitects.com/index.html).

Teaching Profile

Sam has taught at the WSA since 2008. Sam previously taught at Kingston University where he co-led a design unit for second year undergraduate students. Sam has also contributed to teaching at Chelsea College of Art & Design, acting as an external critic for first year of the Interior Design Foundation Degree.

Sam has an interest in social sustainability and community-orientated projects, including humanitarian aid work and the boundaries between architectural and development practice.
