Description of Service

Many students coming to university will go through a transitional period where they must adapt to new ways of learning and teaching as well as living away from home, often for the first time. The Mentor Scheme was launched in 2012 and aims to aid students with that transition. The University recognises that whilst it offers a range of robust and professional services to assist students, there were often times when students felt uncomfortable asking staff for advice. There was also an acknowledgement that current undergraduate students hold a wealth of information gained through recent experience. The University matches first year students to continuing undergraduate students from within the same school. Each Mentor is assigned a group of mentees and they meet on a weekly basis to discuss transitional, academic, pastoral and social issues.
