Royal Visit 1995
The Prince of Wales received a rapturous welcome from students when he officially opened the Talybont residences in 1995.
"I’ve never seen so many students," the Prince told Vice-Chancellor, Sir Brian Smith, when he visited the £17 million complex, accommodating 1250 students.
He had the opportunity to inspect one of the residences at first hand, and was also given a tour of the Talybont sports centre, where he saw a typical busy Wednesday afternoon’s activities.
The visit culminated in the unveiling of plaques, and in his speech the Prince commended the University for involving students during the planning and design stages.
"It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment shown by the students," said Sir Brian Smith. "This contributed greatly to a special occasion."
