Many of the University’s initiatives are only achieved through the generous support we receive from donors. Recent examples of such initiatives include:
- The Richard Whipp PhD Studentships
The Richard Whipp Studentships were established in 2005 to remember Richard’s work at Cardiff University and the many achievements he made during his lifetime.
The Studentships are a testament to Richard’s academic and personal qualities, whilst creating a legacy of learning and understanding for future generations of students.Students like Catherine Preston.
“Without the Richard Whipp Scholarship, it would simply not have been possible for me, financially, to have done a PhD. But beyond the question of money, and more importantly, the Scholarship has provided me with a chance to pursue an interdisciplinary project which has taught me new skills and broadened my intellectual perspective at a stage when it is usual for academic focus to become more specialized. In addition, because there is no other project comparable within the UK, it has afforded me the chance to be involved in something truly groundbreaking.
I am hugely grateful to all those involved in setting up and supporting the Richard Whipp Scholarship scheme. Without that support I would not have been able to pursue research into a topic which I love and to contribute, I hope, something valuable to our understanding of an important part of Wales’s, and Cardiff’s, history.”
- Establishing unique training opportunities such as the Cardiff International Academy of Voice
Under the guidance of the renowned Welsh tenor, Dennis O'Neill C.B.E, the Academy was launched in early 2007. It has created a unique international community of talented young opera singers who receive expert vocal training in a highly-specialised environment.
- Constructing new, modern facilities such as:
- Student accommodation
- The new School of Optometry & Vision Sciences.
The work which Cardiff University undertakes changes lives and your support is vital to our future development.
